Also Known As:

STMV (1 hour) (Video EEG)

A STMV (1-hour) EEG is a diagnostic test used to measure the brains electrical activity over a shorter period. This procedure is particularly useful for monitoring patients who may have occasional neurological symptoms, such as seizures, fainting spells, or episodes of confusion. By placing small electrodes on the scalp, the EEG detects and records brain waves, identifying irregularities that may indicate issues such as epilepsy, brain injury, or sleep disorders. The test is non-invasive and painless, although the patient may be asked to relax or remain still during the procedure. An EEG can capture abnormal brain activity that occurs in real-time, allowing clinicians to assess brain function and identify any potential issues. This test can be performed while the patient is awake, although in some cases, a longer or sleep-deprived EEG may be recommended for a more thorough assessment of the brain’s electrical activity. Video EEG is also helpful in differentiating true seizures from pseudoseizures and in patients who are feigning seizures.
